Pareidolia

Pareidolia

$3,000.00

“Pareidolia” is a perceptual phenomenon wherein a familiar pattern, (such as a face) is perceived where one does not exist. This painting was inspired in part by the work of swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach, of “Rorschach Test” fame. The process employed to create the image embraced chaos. Using a technique called “Decalcomania”, forms were created and destroyed repeatedly. Eventually a shape not unlike an open-mouthed vessel emerged. The mirrored hand posture mimics a sixth mask, framing the navel in an invocation of motherhood and gestation.
